Cervical Spondylosis

Cervical Spondylosis is a condition in which there is abnormal wear on the cartilage and bones of the neck (cervical vertebrae).

Symptoms

  • Neck pain or stiffness.
  • Soreness in the neck.
  • Muscle spasms
  • Swelling
  • A clicking, popping or grinding sound when you move your neck.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headaches.
  • Tingling or numbness that mainly affects the shoulders and arms

Who are at risk

  • Elderly
  • Work-related activities that put extra strain on your neck such as staring long time in desktop, repetitive stress work such as looking overhead (for example, painters) or downward (plumbers or flooring installers), heavy lifting like construction workers, exposed to a lot of vibration like bus or truck drivers etc

Treatment

  • A heated pad or cold pack can provide pain relief when the neck muscles become sore.
  • Soft collar or brace for providing support to the neck muscle
  • Oral medications
  • Physiotherapy: Your symptoms may be relieved with specific exercises and stretches. Physical therapy focuses on stretching and strengthening your muscles and improving your posture. Electrotherapy treatment plays an important role in relieving pain.
  • Steroid Injection or even surgical management in severe cases
